What to prepare before getting a shop website: a 7-point checklist

The more you have ready, the faster and closer to what you want the site will be. Here is what to gather before you talk to a web designer — from your logo and product photos to a domain name.

A good website starts with good information. A designer can make the site look good, but the shop's details have to come from the owner. If you prepare them first, the work is finished sooner and needs fewer changes.

1. Your logo and colours

If you have a logo, send the clearest file you have — ideally one with a transparent background. If you don't have one yet, tell us the colours you like or send a shop whose style you like.

2. Photos of your products or shop

Customers look at photos before they read. Shoot in good light against a plain background; a recent phone is enough. Include the shop front, the atmosphere, and your main products or services.

3. Products or services with prices

Write the name, a short description and the price. If there are options — sizes, colours, wholesale prices by quantity — list those too.

4. Contact details and opening hours

Phone, LINE, Facebook page, address, opening hours and days off. This is what customers look for most often.

5. What the site should do

Only give information, or let customers order, book, get a price or request a quote? Say so clearly from the start, because price and timing depend on it.

6. A domain name

Think of two or three names that are short, easy to remember and spell, and close to your shop's name — your first choice may already be taken.

7. Websites you like

Send two or three sites you like and say what you like about them. It is faster than describing it in words.

In short

You don't need everything before you start, but the more you have ready, the closer the site will be to what you want. At CAN DESIGN WEB STUDIO you can also pick a design from sample sites you can actually use first.
